Today's only big news is that Cyclone Mocha continues to batter western Myanmar as it moves farther north and into a less populated area. It was expected to make landfall near Cox's Bazar, the world's largest refugee camp, which houses over 1 million people in flimsy bamboo shelters. Instead, the cyclone made landfall in the small Burmese town of Sittwe with sustained winds of about 155 mph and gusts of up to 195 mph. However, it was still a very close call for the refugees in southeastern Bangladesh. Millions of people are now out of power and multiple humanitarian associations are carefully watching and tracking the storm to get an idea of how much damage it may have done.

Happy Mother's Day! Sadly, this is also the one-year anniversary of the racist Buffalo mass shooting that killed ten people and injured three others on this day last year. Now, let's get into today's news. Cyclone Mocha has officially made landfall in western Myanmar, specifically the town of Sittwe, with sustained winds of over 155 mph. The storm has been pummeling the area all day, but there is no word on any injuries or deaths so far. Millions of people are now without power and many homes have been destroyed, but the storm is moving fast, so it will not do too much damage to any one area. The cyclone is now moving up Myanmar, and it is expected to dissipate soon in southwestern China. On another note related to weather, quite a bit of the United States is receiving some sort of severe weather right now. The western US is experiencing a serious heat wave, with Seattle and Northern California reaching 90-92ºF (32-33ºC), Las Vegas hitting 96ºF (35.5ºC), and Phoenix, Arizona even reaching 100ºF (37.7ºC). Severe storms have just struck Texas and Oklahoma, with multiple tornadoes doing serious damage to many towns. In the southeast, heat is plaguing the region, with many cities like New Orleans, Memphis, Atlanta, and Tampa hitting temperatures in the high 80s (31-32ºC) and even 90s (32-33ºC).

Mother's Day is coming up, so kids, have something prepared to show your love for one of the most amazing people in your life: your mom! Happy Mother's Day! Now, let's get into today's news. The huge competition of Eurovision has taken place, with the Swedish singer of Loreen taking home the grand prize with her song, "Loreen." If you don't know, this is a song contest where European countries select their best artists to compete in a contest called Eurovision. This year, the contest took place in Liverpool, England, and Loreen became the first woman and second artist to ever win Eurovision twice, having won it in 2012 as well for her song, "Euphoria." Käärijä (Finland) took runner-up for his song, "Cha Cha Cha," and Noa Kirel (Israel) took home the last podium spot for her song, "Unicorn." Marco Mengoni (Italy) and Alessandra Mele rounded out the top five for their songs, "Due vite" and "Queen of Kings," respectively. On another note, Cyclone Mocha continues to strengthen in the Bay of Bengal, with sustained winds of over 160 miles per hour (257 kmh). It is heading for a specific area in between the border of Myanmar and Bangladesh, where over 1 million refugees are currently taking shelter in flimsy bamboo and mud houses that could easily be blown away by this intense storm. The cyclone will bring storm surge, flooding, heavy rain, and extremely strong winds, which are enough to blow away even the strongest of homes. Some of its bands have already started impacting the coast, and some towns are alread quite close to the eye wall. If you still can, please evacuate! If this is not possible, make sure to take shelter in a place like a bunker or a safe room, because this storm is likely to blow away your entire house.

Today, we come with more news of the raging wildfires in Alberta. The Canadian province has been battered by fires in the last few weeks, and tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate from their homes and leave their businesses to be engulfed by the wildfires. Oil and gas production has been shut down, and the hundreds of firefighters battling them have even asked the military for help to stop them from spreading. However, the heat that is scorching the province has not been helping. On another note, a boat carrying almost 50 people has capsized in Nigeria, killing 15 people. 25 more are missing, officials say, but they are still trying to find out the cause of the incident. Today, the FBI has officially announced that they have taken down an important hacking tool that many Russian spies have been using. As part of the operation, they also busted a huge cyber operation that was taking place in dozens of countries. The US are calling it Russia's 'most sophisticated' malware network, and it is now completely down. On another note, 34-year-old George Alvarez is now being charged for eight counts of manslaughter after killing eight people and wounding seven more when he drove his SUV into a crowd of migrants at a bus stop in Brownsville, Texas. Many migrants are now critically injured, and one even recorded a video in the hospital, pleading for help from President Biden. He talked about how he had come from Colombia to find an opportunity in the US, so that his wife and two kids could move with him, but that is all gone now that his leg was amputated after he sustained major injuries in the crash. However, it is still unknown whether Biden will provide help to these migrants, and we also do not know if the crash was intentional.

However, they are still investigating and discovering more information as the search for any survivors continues.

Firstly, Prince Charles III has officially become King Charles III, after his coronation ceremony on Saturday. The coronation included performances from Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, and many people enjoyed the spectacular event, in person and on TV. However, King Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at 96 years old, and many people are wondering how long King Charles will last, since he is already 74 (just one year older than Lionel Richie). On another note, quite a few places around the world are going through some big weather events. In the Canadian province of Alberta, dry weather conditions have sparked hundreds of wildfires across the area, causing the governor to issue a state of emergency. In Vietnam, a heat wave has been battering the southeast Asian country, with one thermometer setting an all-time record of 44.1ºC (111.4ºF). On the other hand, the Congo Basin in Africa is being hit by a massive downpour of rain, bringing huge mudslides and deadly floods with it. Over 200 people are dead, and hundreds more are missing as communities race to rescue their friends and loved ones from the mud. POLL: Would you rather be experiencing the blazing hot, dry weather of Alberta and Vietnam, or the torrential rain and mudslides in the Congo Basin? Give us your answer below in the comments! On a separate note, the shooting suspect at the Allen Premium Outlets in the US state of Texas has been identified as Mauricio Garcia. He was a security guard at the mall about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas, and he immediately started firing when he entered the premises with an AR-15, killing eight people and injuring seven more before he was killed by police. This also comes after a man identified as Francisco Oropesa killed five of his neighbors in Cleveland, Texas, a week ago, and then tried to escape to Mexico (though he was caught by the police after a four-day manhunt). Because of these mass shootings, more and more pressure is building on Texas Governor Greg Abbott by the residents of Texas, but he refuses to increase gun restrictions. Instead, he claims that mental health is the problem, and that we need to address that, not gun control. Lastly, that was not the only incident in Texas to happen recently. Seven people are dead and eleven others are injured after a car ran into a throng of people at a bus stop in Brownsville. The driver, who has now been arrested, plowed into the crowd, and he still refuses to speak as he sits in the hospital with guards on watch around the clock. The incident happened "outside a migrant shelter where people from around the world are seeking asylum and safety," said the American Civil Liberties Union on Sunday.
