Canadian wildfire smoke is picking up once again, with the smog billowing into the United States from Canada. The fires are raging in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec, and the Northwest Territories as well. Fire danger is also extremely high in the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Two firefighters have died fighting the flames, and over 120,000 people have been displaced as the fires burn over 25 million acres (10 million hectares). Also, heat continues to plague the globe as fires erupt in other locations around the world, mainly Italy and the rest of southern Europe. Temperatures could set records in the area today, with Rome expected to hit 106ºF (41.1ºC), and Italy has issued a red alert for extreme heat in 16 cities. Meanwhile, Death Valley in California (USA) reached 128ºF (53.3ºC) on Monday, which is just a few degrees lower than the world record (which was also set in Death Valley): 134ºF (56.6ºC) in 1913. Lastly, there were multiple injuries in Stage 15 of Tour de France on Sunday, where a fan trying to take a selfie accidentally stepped onto the bike track; and that didn't end well! A biker hit their foot right after, sparking a pileup crash at the scene. One biker even replied to an interview saying that they fell 'like skittles' after the first biker crashed. Hello, my name is Adit Kakkad, and as you may know, June 15th was my last day as part of YNH/TWN. This is will be my last daily update written by me, so enjoy! We have a weather filled update, so let's jump in. Around 113 million people are heat advisories in the US from Florida to California and Washington State. An all-time high for this time of year was recorded in Phoenix, Arizona, reaching 118ºF (47.7ºC). Temperatures has been consistently around 110ºF (43.3ºC) for 16 days in a row; the temps haven't dipped below 100ºF (37.7ºC) for the entire month! Death Valley is expected to reach up to 129ºF (53.9ºC) as well. Italy is also experiencing heat waves, with extreme health risks for 16 cities. Rome is expected to get as hot as 111ºF (43.9ºC), and this has only begun. There are expected to be more heatwaves across Europe, including Spain, France, Germany, and Poland. On the other hand, severe flooding continues to impact northern India, South Korea, and Japan as storms sit over those areas. In New Delhi, India, entire roads have been washed away due to poor drainage systems and floodplains, but India's monsoon season has been breaking records this year, adding to the misery. In South Korea, hundreds of cars have been submerged and at least twenty-two people have been confirmed dead after people got trapped in a bus. Landslides have taken out entire towns in the severe storms, and over 4,000 people have been evacuated. 15 vehicles were trapped in the deluge of water that quickly submerged the four-lane underpass (including the bus), killing seven people- and eleven others are still missing. In Japan, six people are dead and tens of others are missing, while thousands have been evacuated. Northeastern Japan has taken the brunt of the hit, especially the Akita and Tohoku regions, and more rain is yet to come. Extreme heat continues to plague the United States and Europe, with over 55 million Americans expected to see 100ºF (37.7ºC)+ temps in their area over the next week. In the southwestern US, the city of Phoenix has experienced temperatures over 100ºF (37.7ºC) for every day this month, and it could reach over 118ºF (47.7ºC) this weekend. Italy has received the brunt of the heat so far, with temperatures in Rome expected to reach 113ºF (45ºC). On the other hand, monsoon rains are bringing serious flooding to northern India in Asia. Monsoon season is a yearly occurrence in South Asia, but this year seems to be worse than normal. The Yamuna River has also flooded, breaking water level records. Thousands have been forced to evacuate as cities like New Delhi start to experience flash floods, and many officials are now seeking the help of the army. All of these extreme weather events are just more signs that climate change continues to worsen and affect our environment, and they will become more common and more severe if we don't work to stop it. - BREAKING NEWS: Massive Sunstorm Approaches Earth
Here’s our latest article. This one is very important, so make sure to prepare for what’s coming. You can read it below or see it on the website here: https://theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/massive-sunstorm-approaches BREAKING NEWS: A massive sunstorm is approaching Earth and could cause blackouts, internet outages, and more electronic problems. Read on to find out more. What is going on? A sunstorm? Let's find out. Want to skip the complex science stuff? Skip ahead to paragraph 5 (this is paragraph 1). First off, a large sunstorm is also known as a coronal mass ejection (CME). CMEs are large releases of plasma from the Sun's corona into the existing magnetic field. A corona is the outer layer of a star like the Sun, and is normally made of plasma. But how do CMEs happen? Well, you need to first have a sunspot. A sunspot is a planet-sized area on the Sun where the magnetic field is stronger than the rest of the Sun. This causes the plasma in the corona to erupt violently out of the Sun's surface. That is then called a coronal mass ejection because the plasma massively ejects out of the corona. And how often do they happen? Well, first you need to understand what the solar maxima and minima are. Yeah, it's a lot of science. First, you need to understand that the sun has an 11-year solar cycle. This solar cycle results in increased CME activity during some specific parts of the cycle. This is called the solar maxima. Meanwhile, the solar minima is when the CME activity is heavily decreased in the cycle. So going back to the question, how often do CMEs happen? Near solar minima, there is about 1 CME every 5 days. On the other hand, during solar maxima, the Sun produces about three CMEs a day. So during solar maxima, if the Sun makes three CMEs a day, how come we don't feel the effects of any of those? Well, it's because the Sun is 93 million miles away from Earth. Only extremely strong CMEs are strong enough to escape the Sun's gravitational pull. Once these extremely strong CMEs enter what is called, interplanetary space, they are titled as interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICME). ICMEs are then, finally, titled, sunstorms, or solar tsunamis. They travel millions and millions of miles through space. These can then hit Earth's magnetosphere. But what are the effects of these sunstorms hitting Earth's magnetic field? Let's find out. When ICMEs hit the magnetosphere, they cause good and bad things. The bad things are that the following magnetic ripple in the field can cause blackouts, fires, electronic cable malfunctions, and internet outages. Although there is one good thing. The said ripple can also cause beautiful auroras in the far north and south, and when a sunstorm hits, you don't want to miss its aurora. The massive sunstorm approaching Earth is expected to hit sometime this week, with the possibility of it hitting starting on Saturday, July 23, 2022, and it will cause massive global effects, so be prepared. Your household could face internet problems, electronic malfunctions, and even blackouts. By Armaan Dhawan
