Contents: Torrential Rains Slam Southern Florida, Show No Sign of Stopping Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day For three days now, southern Florida (especially in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area) has been experiencing terrible weather, with storms roaring in since Tuesday and raining down up to 2 feet of rain. In fact, the city of Fort Lauderdale received an entire month's worth of rain in one day-- and more is on the way. Flooding became quite bad in cities such as Miami, with cars going under the water, and many vehicles were seen floating down the street in multiple locations. Due to the already-saturated ground, flash flooding occurred even faster, and at least 1.7 million people were under flash flood warnings. Roads became rivers all over the city, and firefighters had to use boats to get to some areas to rescue people stranded on the upper floors of their homes or in their cars. This has resulted in flights to Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa being delayed or even canceled. In addition, it has also become a cause for concern to the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup, as three matches are scheduled in Central Broward Park in Lauderhill (a city next to Fort Lauderdale). The flooding and rainfall in the state have gotten so bad that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a state of emergency for Miami-Dade, Broward, Lee, Collier, and Sarasota counties. Unfortunately, the rain shows no signs of letting up, with storms expected to continue through today. Residents will get a much-needed break over the weekend, with a couple of isolated thunderstorms expected, but the rain will return in full force next week and is expected to continue all the way until the end of the month without a break. There is one plus side, though. The areas where the rain has been slamming are actually within a region of Florida that has been experiencing severe drought lately. Central and South Florida have been quite dry over the past few months, with the occasional rain throughout May and almost no rain at all across January, February, March, and April. This rain will be a bit of an overflow, though, and it is all due to climate change. Changes in weather patterns are happening all over the world as the Earth warms, with more devastating weather like storms and droughts occurring every day. Fact of the Day (Reader's Digest): Trees can talk. Their roots are connected through an underground network of fungi, nicknamed the "Wood Wide Web," allowing them to share resources. They "talk" by transmitting nutrients to each other through the fungi. For instance, a mother tree, the oldest and strongest tree in the forest, will share some of her sugars with smaller, nearby trees to help them grow. Quote of the Day (Gracious Quotes): Truth is not something outside to be discovered; it is something inside to be realized. (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh/Osho) Word of the Day (Merriam-Webster): Lodestone (noun) - When used literally, lodestone refers to the mineral magnetite, a magnetic iron ore. Lodestone is also used figuratively to refer to something that, like a magnet, strongly attracts things. In a Sentence: The city is a lodestone for aspiring musicians of all genres.

Contents: 49 Dead, 50 Injured After Fire in Kuwait Residential Complex Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day At least 49 people are dead and over 50 others are injured after a massive fire within a residential block in Mangaf, Kuwait. The fire began around 6:00 am local time on the ground floor, and it quickly spread across the building due to the large number of gas tanks inside. It spread too fast for people to react-- some were sleeping, some were getting ready for work, some had just come back from a night shift, and some were cooking using their gas stoves. The fire was later contained, but not before it burned through multiple floors. There were around 196 people living in the building, which hints that it may have been overcrowded. Tightly packed, sub-optimal living conditions are common for migrant workers in Kuwait, which is one of richest countries in the world. Multiple human rights groups consistently raise concerns over these living conditions in addition to their dangerous working conditions, low pay, and the fact that they are allegedly discriminated against and abused. This may have contributed to the reason behind the fire, which is still unknown. 40 of the 49 people killed were Indians, but people from Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Nepal are also believed to have been among the deceased. Some bodies were burned so badly that officials have not been able to identify them, so DNA tests will be required, but most of the victims seem to have died from smoke inhalation. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a statement on Wednesday giving his condolences to the families of the dead and expressing his sadness over this terrible incident. He also sent the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, to Kuwait to work on the rescue efforts and bring the dead Indian citizens back to India. Officials have now launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, but Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf al-Sabah hinted that it may very well have been due to the overcrowded building and how other rules and regulations may have been violated as a result of greed and hunger for more money. Due to this, the owner of the residential complex has now been detained and is being investigated over the matter. Fact of the Day (Reader's Digest): When Pixar's Toy Story 2 was still in production, an employee accidentally deleted some scenes. The employee mistakenly entered a wrong command onto the drive where the scene files were stored, and they all started deleting. Pixar said that it would have taken a year to recreate the deleted scenes, but thankfully, another employee had a backup of all of the scenes at home. Quote of the Day (Gracious Quotes): Success isn’t determined by how many times you win, but by how you play the week after you lose. (Sunita Williams) Word of the Day (Merriam-Webster): Efficacious (adj) - Efficacious is a formal word used to describe something—often a treatment, medicine, or remedy—that has the power to produce a desired result or effect. In a Sentence: Companies like to tout the number of efficacious natural ingredients in their beauty products.

Contents: New Ceasefire Agreement Reached For Israel-Hamas Conflict Hunter Biden Convicted Of Illegal Gun Use Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day The United Nations voted on a ceasefire to the Israel-Hamas conflict on Monday. While Russia abstained from voting, the 14 other member states in the Security Council voted yes. The plan included 3 phases, with the 1st one being a six-week ceasefire in which the Israeli military would withdraw from Gaza, and Hamas would release some of their hostages. From there, negotiations would be held until a permanent solution could be reached. Israel and Hamas both reacted positively to the agreement, with Hamas announcing they were ready to work with mediators to end the 8-month-long war. However, Israel released a statement yesterday saying that Hamas had rejected the hostage part of the plan. Going almost halfway around the world, U.S. President Joe Biden's son, Robert Hunter Biden, has been convicted of lying to the government about his drug addiction when he bought a Colt Cobra revolver in 2018. This resulted in him illegally owning the gun for 11 days before his former girlfriend found it and threw it in the trash. The judge, Maryellen Noreika, has not sentenced him yet, but the damage has been done. Biden is the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime, and he will face more struggles, as he has also been charged with tax evasion by David Weiss, saying he neglected to pay $1.4 million between 2016 and 2019. His trial is scheduled for September 5 in Los Angeles. Fact of the Day (Reader's Digest): Nauru is the only country in the world without an official capital city. The government offices of the tiny Pacific island nation are located in the Yaren District. Quote of the Day (Gracious Quotes): Don’t get bogged down by the notion of limits. There aren’t any. (Sunita Williams) Word of the Day (Merriam-Webster): Foment (verb) - To foment something, such as hostility or opposition, is to cause it, or try to cause it, to grow or develop. The main topic was that Apple is bringing AI to the iPhone, with the integration of ChatGPT and some cool Generative AI features coming to the iPhone 16. Siri will now have: Recall photos-- With a couple of keywords, Siri can recall any photo in your library, no matter how long ago. Pull up information across apps-- Siri can now pull up any information across your apps, varying from a detail in a three-year-old email to your most urgent reminders this week . Better conversation-- Siri will have richer language features, enabling smoother conversation and more ways to assist you. A new look-- Instead of a moving circle on the bottom of your screen, Siri will now be a moving rainbow ring around the edge of it. Also, with a double tap at the bottom of your screen, you can now type to Siri instead of speaking out loud if you want to. More product knowledge-- If you don't know how to do anything on your phone, just ask Siri, and it will give you detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to do the task. Here's everything else Apple Intelligence can do: Prioritize emails and notifications-- AI can prioritize your emails, highlighting the ones you urgently need to reply to, and prioritize notifications to tell you the most important things what you've missed. The addition of a new Focus called Reduce Interruptions will be like Do Not Disturb but it will allow important notifications to come through. Create Genmojis-- You can now create your own emoji with a couple of keywords and save that emoji to use it wherever you want. Create images-- With some keywords or a quick sketch, Apple Intelligence can create whatever image you want using the new Image Playground app. Reminders across apps-- Apple Intelligence can find urgent events across apps and remind you of them, like sending you a notification to remind you of a flight the next day. Create your own memory movies-- Using Apple Intelligence, you can enter some keywords and it can gather all of the photos you are referring to in order to create a customized memory movie within the Apple Photos app! Clean up photos-- AI will now be able to remove distractions from photos, creating the best photo possible. Various other actions across apps-- Apple Intelligence can also do lots of other things across apps, ranging from summarizing a long email to creating a smart reply to a text you received. If you have an audio recording of a call or a lecture, it can summarize that, too. Writing tools-- The biggest of all of the new features are the new writing tools. AI will be able to proofread and change your tone of writing, and with the help of ChatGPT, it can even turn detailed instructions into a professional essay or article. It can summarize entire essays or give you the highlights of a long group text that you missed. These writing tools will be available anywhere on your phone that you write, not just Apple apps. However, there's only one catch to Apple Intelligence-- it's not available on old devices. Apple Intelligence will only be available in beta in the fall on Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the iPad Pro (M1 chip and later), the iPad Air (M1 chip and later), the MacBook Air (M1 chip and later), the MacBook Pro (M1 chip and later), the iMac (M1 chip and later), the Mac mini (M1 chip and later), the Mac Studio (M1 Max chip and later), and the Mac Pro (M2 Ultra). Contents: India Barely Beats Pakistan in Thrilling T20 World Cup Match Alcaraz Defeats Zverev, Swiatek Crushes Paolini in the French Open Finals Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day The #GreatestRivalry match between India and Pakistan took place on Sunday, with India barely taking the win. The match was truly the world cup's greatest rivalry, as hundreds of millions of people tuned in to watch and the lowest ticket prices averaged at around $2,500. The toss was scheduled for 10:00 am EDT but was delayed due to rain. In the end, it was won by Pakistan, who chose to bowl. This was a crucial moment because the rain caused the ball to slow down for the Indian batters on an already quite unpredictable pitch. The match started at 11:30, with opening batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and the opening bowler of Shaheen Afridi. The opening batters made a few good boundaries but got out early, being caught by Haris Rauf and Usman Khan, respectively. Then, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel came in and gave India a score of 50-2 in the powerplay (1-6 overs). The middle overs (7-16) went well for India initially, but Axar got out at 7.4 overs after a swing-and-miss. Suryakumar Yadav came in at fifth to star as a big-hitter. Unfortunately, Mohammed Amir caught him inside the 30-yard circle after only hitting eight balls and making seven runs. Shivam Dube came in, having served as a successful Impact Player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before this. But he, too, got out early, bowled and caught by Naseem Shah, and made only three runs in 9 balls. Hardik Pandya came in, but the duo of Pandya and Pant didn’t last long. Pant suffered from a top edge and was quickly caught out by Babar Azam, making 42 runs in 31 balls. Ravindra Jadeja came in and immediately got out in a golden duck, sending India further into trouble. Arshdeep Singh came in and barred a hat-trick with a dot ball. The middle overs finished with 50 runs and five wickets. Finally, the death overs (16-20) came. Pandya got out quickly, caught by Iftikhar Ahmed, and scored seven runs in 12 balls. Jasprit Bumrah came in but immediately got out in another golden duck for India. Mohammed Siraj came in at eleventh and barred a hat-trick with a single. Siraj scored seven runs before Arshdeep got out on the seventh-to-last ball after a miscommunication that resulted in a run-out. India finished with a total of 119 for ten wickets in 19 overs. Then, Pakistan came to bat. The openers of Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam scored a comfortable 26 runs, but then Babar was caught by Suryakumar at slip after an outswinger from Bumrah. Usman came in and helped finish off the powerplay with a total score of 35 runs. Then Usman and Rizwan took their partnership to the middle overs, with Usman getting LBWed by Axar. Then, Fakhar Zaman came into the field, scoring 16 runs with Rizwan before the former was caught by Pant, India’s wicketkeeper. Imad Wasim then took the role and scored 7 with him before Rizwan – one of Pakistan’s two top batsmen – was clean-bowled by Bumrah, providing India with the breakthrough they needed. Imad and Shadab Khan now bore the duty of batting in the death overs. They had a partnership score of 8 runs before Shadab got out, having been caught by Pant. Iftikhar Ahmed came up to bat but only scored 14 runs with Imad before being caught by Arshdeep. Imad was then partnered with Afridi, but Imad was taken out in Bumrah’s final over after being caught by Pant. Bumrah maintained a very low economy rate in the penultimate over, requiring Pakistan to score 18 runs off the final six balls, which Arshdeep Singh bowled. The final partnership was Afridi and Naseem, but their partnership of 11 runs was not enough to reach the target of 120. Pakistan ended with 113 runs for seven wickets, handing India the win by six runs. For some other sports news, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz took home victory in the 2024 Men’s French Open final yesterday in an exciting five-set match against Germany’s Alexander Zverev. The match started with Alcaraz winning the first set, 6-3, but he lost the next two sets to Zverev, 2-6 and 5-7. However, he easily won the next one, 6-1, and took victory in the final set as he crushed Zverev, 6-2. At just 21 years old, Alcaraz has now become the youngest-ever player to win a grand slam on all court surfaces, as he won the 2022 US Open against Norway’s Casper Ruud and beat Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final last year. He is also still undefeated in any grand slam final – once he makes it there, he secures the title – and is the youngest player to win the French Open since Spain’s Rafael Nadal in 2007– and Nadal had also won the French Open in 2006 and 2005. This comes after Djokovic was forced to retire from the French Open following a torn meniscus, and his future in this year’s Wimbledon is yet to be seen. On the other side of the tournament, Poland’s Iga Swiatek quickly crushed Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in straight sets, winning the Women’s French Open final 6-2, 6-1. This is Swiatek’s fourth time winning the French Open and her fifth overall grand slam title, as she also won the US Open in 2022. Her experience on the court helped her cruise to victory, as Paolini had never made it past the fourth round of any major tournament. Contents: Looking Into the Question of Trump's Vice-President Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day As the November 5th elections draw closer, the issue of vice president looms for Donald Trump. Trump and his team have considered many choices, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and U.S. Senator Tim Scott. However, select individuals from his team believe a woman VP is the way to go. This is because they want to reach female voters. A choice many campaign financiers considered was Nikki Haley, but she did compete against Trump in the Republican primaries, making her an unlikely choice. Additionally, two choices Trump's team considered, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and U.S. Senator Katie Britt, have made some mistakes that took them out of conversation. The shortlist has considered many male choices, however, like U.S. Senator J.D. Vance, who Trump's son, Donald Trump, Jr., has been partial to. Trump has said he will announce to the public his decision for his running mate during the Republican National Convention, the event in which the official decision for the Republican presidential candidate will be announced. Fact of the Day (Reader's Digest): In just one teaspoon of soil, there are more microorganisms than people on the planet. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, "millions of species and billions of organisms—bacteria, algae, microscopic insects, earthworms, beetles, ants, mites, fungi, and more—represent the greatest concentration of biomass anywhere on the planet." Quote of the Day (Gracious Quotes): Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star. (W. Clement Stone) Word of the Day (Merriam-Webster): Incognito (adj/adv) - When you go incognito, your true identity is kept secret (as through the use of a different name or a disguise). Incognito can be used either as an adverb or an adjective with the same meaning. In a Sentence: The food critic made an incognito visit to the restaurant.

Contents: USA Cricket Team Beats Pakistan in Exciting ICC World Cup Match Djokovic Withdraws from French Open After Knee Injury Swiatek Set to Play Paolini in Women's French Open Final This Weekend Trump Advisor Steve Bannon Sentenced To Jail For 4 Months BJP Facing Negotiations For Coalition Government Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day First up, we have some surprising sports news. Yesterday, the brand-new-at-ICC-World-Cup USA team beat Pakistan, an extremely experienced cricket team in an exciting nail-biter of a match! Pakistan scored 159 runs off 20 overs but lost seven wickets. Their peak overs were 10 and 12, scoring 20 RPO and 19 RPO respectively. This is compared to their average in this game of 7.7 RPO, which is quite low for a relatively strong team like Pakistan. Then, the US team scored the exact same amount while losing only three wickets. This sent the match into a tie-breaking Super Over, in which the USA scored 18-1, and Pakistan could only manage 13-1. This comes just days before Pakistan's match with India on Sunday, titled #GreatestRivalry by the media. On another sports note, world number 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the French Open, one of tennis' four grand slams, due to a knee injury. After playing an extensive match until 3 am local time against Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, Djokovic experienced a knee injury during a thrilling five-set comeback against Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo the next day. Unfortunately, scans later showed that he had torn his meniscus, a section of the knee between the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone). These tears take a while to heal, forcing him to withdraw from the French Open. He may also miss the coveted Wimbledon championship in early July, as meniscus tears can take 4-8 weeks to fully heal. Tennis fans will be hoping that he will be back in action before Wimbledon, but it is all up to his rehab and recovery. Many experts and fans are now calling out the organizers of the French Open for making Djokovic play so late, calling the schedule "absurd." His match only begun at 10:30 pm local time, lasting until 3 am, and he had barely any time to sleep before his match the next day. This may have contributed to his injury, as tennis is a very physically demanding sport and players need time to rest and recover. On the other side of the French Open, Russia's Iga Swiatek and Italy's Jasmine Paolini have advanced to the final after two stunning wins against the US's Coco Gauff and Russia's Mirra Andreeva. Swiatek crushed Gauff 6-2, 6-4, continuing her amazing record against the 20-year-old American: she is now 11-1 vs Gauff. Swiatek will be hoping to take home victory at the French Open for the third consecutive year, which would make her only the third-ever woman to do so after Justine Henin and Monica Seles. Meanwhile, Paolini beat Andreeva 6-3, 6-1, continuing her recent good form. She has already won this year's Dubai WTA 1000, and this is her first time making it past the fourth round of any grand slam tournament so far. Paolini will be hoping to beat the favorite, Swiatek, in the final on Saturday, June 8, at 3 pm local time (Paris). On a more serious note, former President Trump's advisor Steve Bannon has been convicted of two counts of "contempt of Congress," a term used to mean an act of obstructing the work of Congress. These cases are for not giving documents or testifying to the House of Representatives Jan. 6 panel, which thinks Bannon might have known information about the attack. He had been convicted in 2022 but was allowed not to be jailed due to an appeal he submitted. However, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected that decision last month. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols gave a statement on Thursday, saying Bannon had to report to prison on July 1. His sentence will last 4 months. Finally, after the Indian election results came out early Tuesday morning IST, the BJP and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance started negotiating. While the NDA secured a win for itself, the BJP did not receive the required 272 seats to gain a majority. This means that the other parties in the coalition could demand certain things from the BJP, or else they might leave the alliance and cause it to lose its majority. In particular, N. Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party and Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) are asking for immense possessions. To start, both parties want special status for their respective states, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. Andhra Pradesh experienced a split back in 2014, with the new state of Telangana taking the capital of Hyderabad and much of the resources. Also, Bihar is one of the poorest states in India. Well, the special status allows for states to receive more government funding in easier ways, helping with their financial problems. Additionally, the TDP wants the positions of Speaker of the Lok Sabha, home minister, and defense minister. These are all highly important positions, and the fact that TDP is asking this of the BJP shows just how much Modi needs the other parties in the NDA. Fact of the Day (Reader's Digest): There are 5 countries in the world that don’t have airports, and they're all in Europe: Vatican City, San Marino, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and Andorra. Quote of the Day (Gracious Quotes): Philosophy is common sense with big words. (James Madison) Word of the Day (Merriam-Webster): Moxie (noun) - Moxie can refer to courage and determination (aka nerve), energy and pep (aka verve), or know-how (as, say, reflected in one’s oeuvre). In a Sentence: They showed a lot of moxie in questioning their company’s policy.

Contents: Boeing Finally Manages to Successfully Launch Starliner Spacecraft Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day Boeing finally managed to launch their Starliner spacecraft yesterday morning, executing a successful takeoff on their third attempt. Boeing has been trying to launch Starliner for a while, as they have previously attempted launches on May 6 and June 1. Starliner is a crewed spacecraft mounted on an Atlas V rocket, and it is Boeing's first successful crewed flight, carrying NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. June 5 or June 6 were the earliest windows after their failed launch on June 1 due to a computer issue, and since weather at their launchpad in Cape Canaveral, Florida was very favorable yesterday, they decided to go ahead with the mission. The spacecraft's destination is the International Space Station, which it should be reaching around 12:15 pm EDT later today. The astronauts will spend eight days at the space station before returning to Earth, living among the numerous personnel aboard the ISS to experience life in space for the first time. However, their stay may last longer, as weather conditions need to be favorable for them to return to Earth. Also, the Starliner is carrying a pump that is needed to fix the station's urine processor. Due to the lack of water in space, astronaut urine is recycled into drinking water through a long process involving lots of complex machinery. On May 29, the urine processor -- the first step in the water purification process -- failed, meaning that the urine now has to be stored in containers so that it can be recycled into the system once the pump is replaced. The two astronauts will test some new capabilities on the Starliner like manual controls and thruster performance before returning to Earth by June 14 or later. Boeing opted for a design that allows them to touch down on land, similar to SpaceX's Dragon, so the astronauts will parachute into one of multiple specific desert areas in the southwest United States. This mission is crucial for Boeing, as they are racing against Elon Musk's SpaceX to become NASA's number one choice for future space missions. However, SpaceX has the jump on them-- as a result of Boeing's consistent issues during missions recently, SpaceX has experienced lots of success with their Dragon mission and other cargo flights. In fact, SpaceX is launching their fourth test flight of their massive Starship rocket in one hour! You can watch the launch live here. Due to this, NASA is already relying on SpaceX for a lot of their upcoming missions, which means that Boeing is going to have to do some catching up. Fact of the Day (Reader's Digest): When ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses IV was mummified, he had his eyes replaced with onions. This was because onions were believed to represent eternal life due to their numerous layers-- and the whole point of mummification was to grant eternal life to the dead. Quote of the Day (Gracious Quotes): The only time you should look back in life is to see how far you have come. (Kevin Hart) Word of the Day (Merriam-Webster): Affluent (adj) - Someone described as affluent has a large amount of money and owns many expensive things. Something, such as a place or institution, described as affluent is similarly rich or wealthy. Today, we have a Your News Hub Exclusive for our daily update-- the Indian elections, explained to you in depth by writer Mihir Gupta! Contents: Indian Election Results Are Here! Federal (Lok Sabha and Prime Minister) Andhra Pradesh (Vidhan Sabha and Chief Minister) Arunachal Pradesh (Vidhan Sabha and Chief Minister) Odisha (Vidhan Sabha and Chief Minister) Sikkim (Vidhan Sabha and Chief Minister) Fact of the Day Quote of the Day Word of the Day The Indian election results are here! And they were not exactly what I was expecting. We hope all our readers living in India contributed to this massive event. I will be explaining all the very weird and interesting results that came out, from the federal elections to the state ones. First, let's go into the federal elections. To "form a government" and choose a prime minister, a party or coalition must hold at least 272 out of the 543 seats. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), gained 294 seats, easily taking the title of the majority. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.), led by the Congress Party, was the next best, winning 235 seats. This means the BJP leader Narendra Modi is set to be the nation's prime minister for the 3rd time. There is a twist, however. While the NDA secured a win for itself, the BJP, disappointingly so, did not receive at least 272 seats. This means that the other parties in the coalition could demand certain things from the BJP, or else they might leave the alliance. This is certainly a shocking revelation for Modi and his team. The state of Andhra Pradesh has been the site of fierce competition between N. Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP). TDP won 135 out of 175 seats, easily gaining a majority in the legislature. Naidu will serve as chief minister for the 4th time. Arunachal Pradesh handed Congress a huge defeat, placing last in total number of seats. BJP scored a landslide with 46 out of 60 seats, and Congress only received 1. The runner-up was the National People's Party (5 seats), followed by the Nationalist Congress Party (I know, it's confusing, but Congress and the NCP are not the same) with 3 seats, then independents with 3 seats, and finally the People's Party of Arunachal with 2 seats). Local BJP leader Pema Khandu will therefore become the Chief Minister. In Odisha, the BJP again had a victory, securing the state independently for the first time. Their main opponents were the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), a party whose main turf was the state. BJP received 78 of the 147 seats, while BJD got 51. This means the next Chief Minister of Odisha will be local BJP leader Manmohan Samal. The other parties did not do so well, however. Congress won 14 seats, independents got 3 seats, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) received 1 seat. Sikkim had the most weird results, according to me. 31 out of the 32 seats were awarded to the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), the dominant party in the region since 2019. Only 1 seat, belonging to the constituency of Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, was given to the Sikkim Democratic Front, SKM's rival party. The other parties competing (BJP, Congress, and the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim) contested for many seats, but were unable to gain a win. So, the elections are done! The results are in and...stop! There are still 4 more state elections to go. If you are living in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir or the states of Haryana, Maharashtra, or Jharkhand, make sure you vote! Every voice matters.
