It's all not-so-good news today, so let's dive in: The US economy is in a crisis right now. A huge crisis. The United States government is about to reach their debt limit today, which could invoke massive repercussions throughout the US. The government has something called a debt ceiling, which is the maximum amount of debt the government can be in at any one time. Right now, the debt ceiling is about $31.4 trillion, and if the US reaches that limit, it would cause the government to not have enough money to pay all of its bills. Then, the limit would start impacting many government-and-money-related things, like Social Security payments, federal agents' salaries, and veterans' benefits, and this follows the day when they had just announced that there would be free emergency healthcare for all veterans. This might also cause them to delay some of their payments. To switch to another topic, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is planning to try to permanently ban vaccine and mask mandates in the Sunshine State, as COVID cases rise across the country. DeSantis has always been skeptical about COVID-19, and he has started to influence other people and enact laws that ban vaccine and mask mandates, plus starting to threaten businesses with a fine if they do put a vaccine or mask mandate into place. Many scientists are now worrying that this could negatively affect many people's health, and they expect COVID cases to keep rising if the ban goes through. Lastly, the US has approved an enormous $2.5 billion military package for Ukraine to help combat Russia in their ongoing war, and Ukrainian President Zelensky states that these new weapons will be crucial in holding off Russia's next drone attack, which is expected to move in soon.

More shock and sadness in Ukraine has emerged after a helicopter crashed in a suburb of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, killing 16 people, including their interior minister. However, Ukraine continues to fight back, and the US has hinted at the fact that they will most likely release another aid package for Ukraine's citizens as soon as the end of this week. More not-so-good news: Microsoft is planning some job cuts today. Big job cuts. They are not the only big company to have been shrinking their workforce lately. Because of inflation on the rise and sky-high interest rates, many large companies have been enacting some big job cuts. Today, Microsoft is planning to cut thousands of jobs; about 5% of their total workforce. To get all of the bad news over with before we get to the good, we address the topic that has been bubbling in people's minds since the end of 2019: COVID-19. COVID has killed over 1 million people in the three years that is has been here, and life expectancy has reduced by 2.5 years. It is also still the third-largest leading cause of deaths in the United States, after heart disease and cancer. So let's take a moment to commemorate all of the people who suffered through COVID. Lastly, the good news! Veterans can now get free emergency healthcare, according to an announcement made by the Department of Veterans Affairs. After all, we do need to protect our veterans and give them the credit they deserve for protecting our country! If you are a veteran, enjoy your free emergency healthcare!

The stormy, fierce rain has finally given Californians a much-needed break from the flooding and lightning and thunder that has been battering their homes for over a week now. However, the storm system is continuing on, next heading to the Four Corners region with some serious snow. Over 2 feet is expected, so make sure to PREPARE! Continuing with the bad news, gun violence is ramping up. Massively. Yesterday was the 29th and 30th mass shooting of 2023, in 17 days, so we are averaging a little less than two mass shootings per day in 2023. So be warned, and stay safe and away from guns. To get to some less tragic news, many people (including the players) at the Australian Open were extremely annoyed with how many matches were postponed due to the searing heat, as it reached over 97 degrees Fahrenheit during the afternoon. Also, in a match between a Ukrainian and Russian player, a Russian flag was displayed, and this sparked a lot of dispute over the currently ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War. Russian and Belarusian flags are now banned at the Australian Open. Lastly, if you are a Star Wars fan: the Season 3 trailer of The Mandalorian is out! Enjoy the trailer!

Everyone took this long weekend as an opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, and celebrate our country's leader in the civil rights movement: Martin Luther King Jr. On a different note, Californians have to prepare for another round of heavy rain today, as up to 3 more inches are expected, following last week's heavy rain and flooding. There are flood watches in place for over 8 million people, including the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area. This is not a storm to be taken lightly, as over 19 people have died in the past few weeks due to these severe storms, so if you are in the affected area, PREPARE NOW! Another tidbit of sad, sad news: 68 people were killed in a Yeti Airlines plane crash in Nepal over the weekend, and 4 more are missing out of the 72 people on board. According to officials in the area, they say that this is the “worst air disaster in Nepal in over 30 years.” They are now investigating the cause of the crash after recovering the plane's black box. Lastly, the Russo-Ukraine War continues on, and the death toll just keeps rising. Over 40 people were killed in a missile strike on an apartment building in Ukraine today, as Russia continues to target critical infrastructure in Ukraine in order to regain control of the eastern part of the country. 39 people, including 14 children, were rescued from the site of the explosion, but 46 more are still missing.

  • Ferrari’s Epic New Competitor To The Lamborghini Urus

Here’s our latest article! You can read it below or on the website here: https://theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/ferrari-s-new-competitor-to-lambo-ursa Due to some technical complications, the images in this blog post may have parts cut off or be smaller than normal. To see the full images, go to the article on the website using the link above. Ferrari is soon releasing a their first SUV, which is expected to be a huge competitor to Lamborghini's SUV, the Urus. Let's dive into some technical specifications and find out how big of a threat the new Ferrari really is to the Lamborghini Urus, its main competitor, and others like the Aston Martin DBX and the Bentley Bentayga. We'll explore the stats of all of them and compare afterwards. First of all, what's its name, and when is it going on sale? It is called the Ferrari Purosangue (PUR-oh-SAN-gway), and its debut should be somewhere in late 2022. It will start going into production by early 2023 and is supposed to start at a price of around $300,000. The price is relatively expensive compared to others, as the Aston Martin DBX starts at around $188,000, the Bentley Bentayga at $193,000, and the Lamborghini Urus at around $230,000. Now that we know it's pretty expensive, let's see if it's actually worth the high price. The standard Purosangue comes with an incredibly powerful V12 engine which is stronger than most competitors. A hybrid V8 model will also later launch alongside two electric models which Ferrari have codenamed the F244 and F245. All of these variant models will be released anytime between 2024 and 2026. Now let's look at the engines and models of some other competitors. The Lamborghini Urus, unlike other standard Lamborghinis, has a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, while the Bentley Bentayga has various different models. One includes a 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 like the Urus, but another model has a more powerful 6.0 liter twin-turbo W12. Yet another is diesel powered, with the same engine as the standard model, and the last one is a plug-in hybrid with a 3.0 L turbo V6 and a 94 kW AC induction motor with a range of about 31 miles. Lastly, the Aston Martin DBX has a standard 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8. Overall, if you're interested in getting a powerful but sporty SUV, the Purosangue is the way to go with the most powerful engine. However, it has not been tested for horsepower yet, so the Urus still leads in the battle for horsepower with 641 hp (top speed of 189 mph), followed by the Bentayga with 626 hp (190 mph), and the DBX with 542 hp (193 mph). The Ferrari SUV will most likely lead that battle, as it is expected to produce over 800 hp (over 200 mph) with its powerful V12 engine. Now let's check out some of the body details. All three released sports SUVs are mid-size luxury crossovers, but Ferrari has not released the details about the Purosangue, only that it will be a mid-size SUV. No photos of the inside have been released, but the Purosangue is expected to have four seats, but the other three competitors have five. Also, unlike the other three, the Ferrari will be a 4-door car, while the others are 5-door. Yes, it's confusing, so let's explain. Firstly, what is a crossover? A crossover is different from a regular SUV because it is generally lighter because of the unibody construction. SUVs have body-on-frame construction and a separate truck chassis instead, making them heavier. A body-on-frame constructed car has a separate body of the car, frame of the car, and a truck chassis on the body as well. This makes the whole thing very heavy. Most large SUVs have this design, and it was very popular in the early days of car construction. In the 1960s, the unibody construction method was introduced, which is now mainly used in smaller cars such as sedans and coupes, but also in many of the newer, smaller SUVs like these. The unibody design is where the body, frame, and chassis are all one simple structure, resulting in a lighter, faster design. Lastly, how do you have a 5-door car? Well, in most sedans, and some SUVs, the trunk/boot of the car is counted as a separate storage compartment that cannot be accessed through the inside seats. A 5-door is when the trunk/boot can be accessed through the inside and is counted as part of the inside of the car. This results in the trunk/boot of the car being counted as a door. There can also be 3-door cars where the car has two side doors and trunk/boot, but these are rare. Anyway, the Purosangue is a 4-door, so its trunk/boot is a separate compartment, but the other three competitors are 5-doors. However, the other three are also luxury crossovers, which means they have a unibody design. Ferrari has not released whether it will have a body-on-frame design or unibody design. Now let's look at some pics of the real cars. Firstly, let's look at the upcoming star, the Ferrari Purosangue. Ferrari has only released one official picture of it (the first picture in the gallery), but there are multiple renderings of what it should look like, based on the official picture. Below you can see some Lamborghini Urus pictures, front and rear, plus one of the interior. Below are some pictures of the different models of Bentley Bentayga, including a picture of the interior. Below are some pictures of the front and rear of an Aston Martin DBX, plus a picture of the interior as well. For an overall synopsis, the Ferrari is pretty even with its competitors. If you're mainly going for exterior looks, the DBX, Urus, and Purosangue are nice, based on your personal choice, but if you're going for speed, the Purosangue and Bentayga are best. If you need more space, then the Urus, Bentayga, or DBX are good, with five seats, and the Ferrari only has four. We hope this guide to the Purosangue helped you decide between these competitors if you want to get a luxury sports SUV, and if you get one, we hope you enjoy it! • Major Flooding Sweeps Eastern Kentucky

Here’s another one of our latest articles! You can read it below or on the website here: theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/major-flooding-sweeps-eastern-kentucky On July 24th, torrential rain swept the nation, with floods reaching many cities across several states. However, the worst flooding was in the Greater St. Louis area, southwest Virginia, parts of West Virginia, and the east south-central state of Kentucky. Specifically, in the eastern portion of it. You can also see a gallery of pictures of the disaster at the end of the article. On July 27th, major floods struck Kentucky, and a day later, 8 bodies had been found already. The governor, Andy Beshear, warned that the death toll will rise, and it did. The death toll rose every day, and by August 1, it was 25, and it finally reached a total of 37. The governor warned that it would probably rise more and he expected “hundreds more homes” to be destroyed as more rain was forecasted for the week, and he was right. He also announced that, in his words, “This is by far the worst flooding disaster at least of my lifetime in Kentucky.” He also said that it was one of the most devastating flooding events in the state’s history, and many people who lost family members would probably agree with him. The Appalachian Mountains had seen floods before, but not like this. It rained and rained until the soil couldn’t take any more, resulting in mudslides and making roads impossible to drive on. • Russia Declares No Oil To Europe

Here’s the last of our articles for today. You can read it below or on the website here: theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/russia-declares-no-oil-to-europe Russia has said on July 18 that there will be no more natural gas exported to Europe. This is a huge problem because Russia supplies 40% of Europe’s gas. Europe is trying to save gas, but economists think that the continent might run out of supply by this winter. The cause of this is because of a big chain. Let’s dive in. On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine under United Nations-defined incorrect pretenses. This caused the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to send weapons to Ukraine to defend themselves against Russia. Now Russia is preventing gas from reaching Europe, which is backlash, or payback for arming Ukraine. You might be thinking, why can’t NATO just send their armies to help Ukraine and end the war? One reason why is because that would be two major powers sending their armies to fight against each other, which is basically NATO declaring war on Russia, sparking a World War III. Another big reason why NATO wouldn’t do that is that China has recently announced that they are supporting Vladimir Putin’s intentions, which is a big worry for all of NATO. The organization is barely strong enough to take on Russia alone, so a Russia-China alliance could be a huge problem for not just NATO, but all of Europe and Asia. This would result in not even a World War III, but a catastrophic event that could wipe out a large chunk of the world’s population (because of nuclear weapons). By Mihir Gupta

  • Grubhub Makes Deal With Amazon

Here’s our latest article! You can read it below or you can access it on our website here: https://theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/grubhub-makes-deal-with-amazon Grubhub recently made a deal with Amazon to have Amazon Prime customers receive Grubhub+ free for one year, and Amazon gets a 2% stake in Grubhub's parent company, Just Eat Takeaways with the option of increasing that stake to 15% in the future. The offer is that Amazon Prime members get Grubhub+ for free for one year. Grubhub+ includes free delivery on any order that is over $12, and also offers member-only offers, and Prime members will be saving $120 a month. After the yearly offer expires, Prime customers will automatically be charged the regular $9.99 a month. There are over 153 million Amazon Prime customers around the world, so this will massively increase Grubhub's customer count and the customers in many restaurants. After the pandemic hit, apps like Grubhub and Doordash exploded in popularity since everyone was stuck at home. Then, after everyone returned to in-person eating, their customer count declined hugely and they were left in trouble because everyone wanted to have the joy of eating in-person again. This will be a way for Grubhub to get ahead of its rivals like Doordash and Uber Eats and get back up to speed. By Armaan Dhawan

  • Record Heat Hits Europe

Here’s our latest article! Have fun reading it! Here’s the website link: theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/record-heat-hits-europe Serious heat has been hitting Europe lately, as temperatures in some places soar to 106 degrees Fahrenheit (41 degrees Celsius). It is a really bad situation, as over 750 people have been killed from the severe heat, only in Portugal and Spain! Here’s what’s been going on, but we’ll break it down, country by country. United Kingdom: Temperatures in Britain were at about 88 or 90 degrees Fahrenheit (31 or 32 degrees Celsius), but weather heated up, with temperatures at over 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) in London, with some areas reaching 105 Fahrenheit (40 Celsius), which was the hottest ever recorded temperature in the country. This was really bad for a country where a lot of houses don’t have AC and are built to prevent heat from escaping and trap it inside because of the cold later in the year. Remember, temperatures like this are very unusual, seeing that London is at the same latitude as Calgary, Canada. The British government also issued a red level warning for the first time ever as a result of the heat in the London area, an orange level in the rest of southern UK, and a yellow level in the northern part of the country and Northern Ireland. They also shut down all railroads because they didn’t want the rails to bend in the extreme heat and the trains to crash. 6 people also drowned while trying to cool off in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs and many fires raged across London on Tuesday. Spain: Temperatures in Spain were not as hot, in the mid to high 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit (around 30-33 Celsius), but the dryness had been going on for a while. It did heat up quite a bit in Southern Spain with the Iberian Peninsula reporting temperatures of 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius) and Spain reported over 350 deaths from the heat, because temperatures don’t usually get this hot, and many more were reported dead during the worst day of the heatwave. Also, over 30 wildfires are raging across the country, burning many hundreds of acres of land. Portugal: There were less wildfires here, but more heat by regular standards. The temperatures were about the same as Spain, reaching 88 or 90 degrees Fahrenheit (31 or 33 degrees Celsius). Another 230 people were reported dead in Portugal because of the heat. Many wildfires are burning here, too. France: The heat here was just like Britain, with temperatures soaring into temperatures like 104 and 106 degrees Fahrenheit (40 and 41 degrees Celsius), but the wildfires were even worse. Dry and hot conditions in Southern France are creating extremely troublesome wildfires, and firefighters are working triple-time to extinguish them. The main problem is in the region of Gironde in Southern France. Two fires are the particular problem. Over 1,200 firefighters have been battling two specific fires in Gironde for days, and they say that the weather is not helping. The dry conditions and hot temperatures help the greenery dry up, creating easier fuel for the fire to burn. The fires have burned over 25,000 acres of land and have forced over 14,000 people out of their homes. Temperatures recently reached 106 degrees Fahrenheit (41 degrees Celsius) in the area. Italy: Temps in Italy have been rocketing the past few days, and unlike others, their heat wave is not expected to stop soon. Temperatures have been at about 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius)  and haven’t been below 86 degrees for weeks. They are predicted to be near 97 or 98 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) in Rome, the capital. Temperatures thankfully cooled down everywhere along this route (except Italy), and many people were relieved that this heat was over. Unfortunately, weather events like this will just become more common as global warming gets more severe and progresses. By Armaan Dhawan

  • NASA Releases Stunning Photos of Deep Space

Here’s our latest article! Read down below for the article, unless you want to see it on the website. Here’s the website link: https://theweeklynews0.wixsite.com/yourweeklynews/webb-telescope-takes-pics-of-deep-space NASA has just released the world's first photos of what deep space really looks like. The pictures were released on July 12 by NASA and truly show the vastness of our universe. You can scroll to the bottom to find the full collection of pictures. Want to find out more and understand the concept? Read on! First of all, who took the pictures? Or exactly, what took the pictures? The answer is the James Webb Space Telescope, Earth's most powerful telescope. But, is the billions of dollars put into it really worth it? Definitely. The telescope has been NASA's largest project for the past few years and is much stronger than its older companion, the Hubble Space Telescope. The massive telescope was launched a few months ago and its first pictures were recently taken. It has the power to detect even the faintest of infrared light because it is so far away. NASA then has to take those infrared pictures and convert them to full color. One more thing before we get to the pictures. One more concept to wrap your mind around. Light may travel at, well, the speed of light, but it still takes millions of years for it to travel this long of a distance. In fact, it takes so long that the light some of these pictures is actually 4.6 billion years old! That means that if this telescope sees a supernova, that means that that supernova actually happened when Earth was still being formed! That also means that whatever is happening out there right now, we won't be able to see it with this telescope for another 4.6 billion years! A complex concept to take in, so let's do a comparison. The sun is 93 million miles away from Earth. It takes 8 minutes for the light from the sun to reach Earth. If it takes 4.6 billion years for the light from deep space to reach us, then imagine how far away that is! It could be trillions, quadrillions, quintillions, of miles away. Maybe even numbers that we haven't even discovered yet. But enough of the background. Now let's get to the pictures. This is a picture of the almost-finished James Webb Space Telescope when still at NASA. It has a unique honeycomb design on the front that makes it very recognizable. This image shows what is named, Stephan's Quintet, which is a picture of five galaxies very close to each other, which provide an ample view of how beautiful space really is. Four of those five galaxies actually interact with each other and stretch each other out. Also, one fun fact, do you see all of the little stars in the background? Almost every single one of those is a galaxy. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is small compared to others, but still has 100 to 400 billion stars. Imagine how many stars are there in those galaxies. Imagine how many planets are circling all those stars. Imagine how many Earth-like planets there are just in our galaxy! How can we be alone in this universe if there are so, so many planets out there? This is the telescope's first image of the Southern Ring nebula, which is a dying star collapsing and gas and dust are coming out, creating a beautiful view. A younger star is also nearby, orbiting it. You have to say, in the universe, stars go out in style! This is a picture of the galaxy cluster called SMACS 0723. It shows thousands and thousands of galaxies, all observed by the James Webb Space Telescope. Its infrared supersensitivity allows it to detect even the faintest of galaxies. In fact, the light from some of the fainter galaxies is over 13.1 billion years old! That's three times as old as the Earth itself! This image shows the Carina Nebula, in our own galaxy, the Milky Way. Nebulas are where young stars are born out of the debris of a dead one. As you can see in the picture, nebulas are perfect for forming stars, and there are probably thousands of young stars being born at this very moment, right here in our galaxy. These pictures are truly spectacular, which is why we have created an easily accessible gallery for you below. Enjoy! By Armaan Dhawan NOTE: THIS GALLERY WILL BE UPDATED AS NEW IMAGES ARE RELEASED, BUT ONLY ON THE WEBSITE
