"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" Cruises to Second-Biggest Box Office Opening in History

Marvel Studios has done it again – the franchise’s latest release, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” has topped the global box office, posting the second-largest box office opening weekend in history.
The film is the fourth installment in Marvel’s third Spider-Man series; the superhero is incredibly well-known and therefore exists in dozens of movies from various actors. However, Marvel’s current Spider-Man series, which features Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as his girlfriend, MJ, has been their most popular.
The series began with “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017, leading up to his appearance in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” in 2018 and 2019. “Avengers: Endgame” still holds the record for the biggest box office opening weekend, bringing in a staggering $1.22 billion in just a few days. The film is also the second-highest grossing movie in history, only behind James Cameron’s “Avatar.”
After Endgame, Marvel produced two more Spider-Man movies: “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Now, after five years of anticipation, the fourth installment has finally arrived – and people are flocking to theaters to watch it.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” brought in $927 million over the course of its opening weekend, putting it well on track to become the highest-grossing movie of 2026 and a total box office gross well above $1 billion. The movie made $355 million across the US and Canada – barely behind the record domestic opening of “Avengers: Endgame,” which racked up $357 million. Internationally, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” grossed $572 million, led by $121 million in sales in China.
Some suggest that the release of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” could have also contributed to the success of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Nolan’s latest film was a highly anticipated release across the globe, and it is set to become his most successful production after grossing $911 million in just three weekends at the global box office. However, this sudden influx of people traveling to theaters means that millions more moviegoers would have seen the trailers and advertisements for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” assisting Marvel in achieving such an incredible opening weekend.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is also another film that the dwindling movie industry is hoping to capitalize on – this summer has been fantastic for theaters, with the release of Disney’s “Toy Story 5” alongside “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “The Odyssey,” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” However, the rise of streaming services and TV series has still heavily contributed to a loss in movie theater revenue, and they will be looking to ramp up profits amid tough times for the entire industry.

14 people were killed by a suicide bombing yesterday in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, a thriving tourism destination. The attack took place outside a local police station, where hundreds of people had gathered to protest against rising tensions and violence inside the region. Once the bomber arrived, he was stopped by authorities, prompting him to detonate the explosives on the spot – killing him and 14 others, and injuring at least 22 people.
